Race for Eighth Seed Heats Up as Jazz Visit Rip City Saturday Night

With a one-game lead in the race for the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot, the Portland Trail Blazers (39-40) welcome the Utah Jazz (49-30) to Moda Center Saturday night. The Blazers’ ‘magic number’ is two as they compete for the eight seed with the Denver Nuggets with three games remaining in the 2016-17 regular season campaign.

Portland has won seven of its last ten games, the most recent coming on Thursday night as Allen Crabbe’s 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting from three-point range led a Blazers comeback to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves. For the season, Damian Lillard’s 26.6 points per game lead Portland, while CJ McCollum has improved to 23.1 points per game.

The Jazz visits the Rose City following a 120-113 home win over Minnesota Friday night, led by Gordon Hayward’s career-high 39 points. French big man Rudy Gobert anchors the paint for Utah with averages of 14 points and 12.8 rebounds per game.

Tipoff for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 7pm at Moda Center as Kevin Calabro and Lamar Hurd call the action with Brooke Olzendam reporting from courtside on KGW. As always, Brian Wheeler has the play-by-play on Rip City Radio 620 and the Trail Blazers mobile app.
