Pelicans-Trail Blazers Postgame Quotes 4-12-17

Pelicans Head Coach Alvin Gentry:
On ending the season with a win:
“It was important in the sense that I wanted us to compete and play hard. I thought we did that for the most part. The unit that we had in there I thought we played hard and did a good job of executing. Came up with a couple of really big plays.”

On holding on in the fourth quarter:
“I just think defensively we were really, really good. They scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, and, obviously, that’s key. Defensively, that’s key. Then, I thought we had some good plays. Cheick made a couple of really good plays. That block that he had in the fourth quarter was really, really big. Then, the basket and the foul that he had I thought that was a really good move on his part, and a really good pass to him. I just thought that unit… Quinn Cook was solid. I don’t even know what his stats were. I thought Cheick and then, obviously, Jordan Crawford has the ability to make shots for us.”

Was it fun for you to watch as they came back in the end?

Pelicans Forward Cheick Diallo:
On the game:
“It felt pretty good. That’s the last game of the season, so I just came to show everything that I have and give everything to get a win.”

On his transition from college to the NBA:
“It’s totally different, because the NCAA and the NBA is totally different. The NCAA is a colony, which helped me a little bit, but I just have to keep moving forward.”

On what he needs to improve on next season:
“Next season I need to get better defensively. Pick and roll stuff and I need to work my jump shot more and my post moves. So that’s what I need to focus on next season.”

On his assessment of his first season in the NBA:
“It was up and down a little bit, because I think I played 26 games in the D-League, so I think it was up and down a little bit, but overall I think it was pretty good.”

On how playing with Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins helps his game:
“Those two are the best players in the league, so I think playing against them helps me a lot. I’m so glad I’m on the same team, so I work with them and continue to get better every day.”

On playing well in back to back games:
“Basically I just need to take my time. I’m not rushing anything. Coach always says the same thing, ‘if you’re open, shoot it. If you’re not open, just keep moving the ball.’ So I just need to take my time and play with my team.”
