After one half of play at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the Pacers lead the visiting Milwaukee Bucks 56-50.
Indiana was paced by the scoring of Paul George, who at one point scored six consecutive points for the Pacers, adding to his team-high 13 at the break.
The night got off to a slow start for the Pacers, who fell behind 12-8 after six minutes of action, making just three of their first 11 shots from the field.
Following a timeout from Pacers head coach Nate McMillan, Indiana began to climb back into the game, using a 3-pointer from George to tie things up at 15.
After receiving another loud ovation from the home crowd at The Fieldhouse upon checking in, Lance Stephenson connected with Kevin Seraphin on a pick-and-roll, who floated a shot up and in to give Indiana a 19-17 lead with 2:40 left in the first quarter.
The connection between Stephenson and Seraphin turned out to be the ignition of a 6-0 Pacers run, which was snapped with Giannis Antetokounmpo slammed home an alley-oop, giving him a game-high 12 first-quarter points.
But the run was enough to lift the Pacers to an early lead, as they carried a 25-21 advantage going into the second quarter at The Fieldhouse.
In the second quarter, however, with both teams’ bench units in the game, Milwaukee executed a 7-0 run to grab a 33-32 lead.
After the Bucks edged in front, the teams began to trade buckets, with the lead changing hands four times in a two minute span.
With just over five minutes left in the half, George began to heat up. After nailing jumpers over his defender on consecutive possessions, George collected a steal at midcourt and hammered a one-handed slam in the open court to put the Pacers up by four, triggering a Bucks timeout.
Out of the break, Milwaukee was still unable to find an answer for Indiana’s attack, as the Pacers scored three more unanswered buckets to make it a 10-0 Indiana run.
The run caused Bucks head coach Jason Kidd to spend another timeout, seeking to get Milwaukee settled. Out of this stoppage, the Bucks responded with more punch, narrowing the score to a 51-46 Pacers lead.
After C.J. Miles connected on a late 3-pointer, the Bucks answered right back, putting the score at a 56-50 Pacers lead at the break.
