Game Preview: Pacers vs Hawks

Doors at Bankers Life Fieldhouse will open at 6:30 PM ET

On Monday night, Pacers fans were transfixed on two games: the Pacers vs. 76ers and the Heats vs. Cavaliers.

After Indiana took care of business on the road, picking up its fourth consecutive victory, all eyes were on Cleveland, who would’ve allowed the Pacers to clinch a postseason berth had it topped the Heat.

But in overtime, the Heat prevailed, sending the Pacers (41-40) into their final game of the season in control of their postseason destiny but needing a win on Wednesday night against the Hawks to guarantee themselves a spot in the 2017 NBA Playoffs.

Wednesday night will be Fan Appreciation Night presented by Indiana Members Credit Union, and without a doubt, the fans would appreciate nothing more than to see the Pacers punch their ticket to the postseason against an impressive Hawks team that just beat the Cavaliers in back-to-back meetings over the weekend.

But the Pacers are hot as well, having picked up four consecutive wins on the heels of a four-game losing streak to thrust themselves back into the catbird seat of playoff contention. Much of their success has been due to the sublime play of the reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week Paul George, who notched his 11th straight game scoring 20 or more points during Monday’s win over Philly.

George now has the second-most consecutive 20 point games of his career and shooting 42.3 percent from three and 51.1 percent from the field over the 11-game stretch.

Carrying a winning streak of four games while enjoying the play of the hottest player in the Eastern Conference, the Pacers appear in good position to wrap up the regular season at home, where they’ve gone 28-12 this season.

Last Meeting

March 5, 2017: Paul George put the Pacers in position to succeed, scoring 34 points in the first three quarters. But it was Glenn Robinson III who played the role of hero, sinking a game-winning 3-pointer from the corner to send the Pacers to an impressive 97-96 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

After Tim Hardaway Jr. missed a 3-pointer with 10 seconds to play, Jeff Teague grabbed the rebound and quickly pushed the ball up the court. Teague handed off to George on the right sideline, who drove baseline before kicking out to C.J. Miles on the left wing.

Miles deftly passed to Robinson in the corner for the open triple, and the reigning Slam Dunk champion swished home the shot, much to the delight of his two-time All-Star father and the entire Pacers bench.

For the Hawks, Tim Hardaway Jr. led the team with 24 points off the bench in the loss. Paul Millsap added 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Schröder had 18 points and seven assists.

  • The Pacers trail 82-100 in the all-time series between the two teams
  • Jeff Teague spent the first seven years of his career with the Hawks before being traded to the Pacers over the offseason
  • Hawks guard Tim Hardaway Jr. and Pacers guard Glenn Robinson III played together at the University of Michigan
