#CavsRaptors Game Preview – April 12, 2017

Game Summary

The Cavaliers will wrap up the 2016-17 regular season on Wednesday night when they take on the Toronto Raptors at Quicken Loans Arena. Tipoff is at 8:00 p.m. (ET).

With Monday’s 124-121 overtime loss to the Heat in Miami, the Cavaliers trail the Boston Celtics by one game in the Eastern Conference standings as we head into the final day of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Celtics can seal the top seed with a win on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks in Boston. A Boston loss and a Cavaliers win against the Raptors will result in the Wine and Gold claiming the top spot and home court advantage throughout the Playoffs on the East side of the bracket.

Cleveland hopes to regain some confidence as they travel back to The Land and play their final game of the regular season at The Q. Cleveland has the 2nd-best home record in the NBA at 31-9 (.775) and is averaging 113.5 points at The Q. The Wine and Gold have scored at least 120 points in three of their last four home games and are a perfect 13-0 when they hit 120 points at The Q this season.

Along with their solid play at home, the Wine and Gold welcome a Raptors squad they have had success against as of late. Including the 2016 Playoffs, the Cavaliers hold a five-game winning streak against their foes from North of the border.

The Cavs dominance over the Raptors may just be because Toronto is part of the Atlantic Division. The Cavaliers are 16-1 against the Atlantic Division this season (3-0 vs. TOR, 3-0 vs. PHI, 4-0 vs. NYK, 3-1 vs. BOS, 3-0 vs. BKN).

Toronto enters Wednesday’s regular season finale with a 50-31 record and cemented as the third seed in the East.

Any mention of the Raptors starts and ends with their backcourt tandem of Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. Lowry is the only player in the NBA averaging 20.0 points and 7.0 assists, while shooting 40 percent from three-point range. DeRozan ranks fifth in NBA scoring (27.3), fifth in field goals made (721) and fifth in free throws made (545).

Making the Raptors Extinct

As mentioned, the Wine and Gold have dominated the Raptors as of late.

Cleveland is 3-0 against Toronto this season and will try to sweep the season series over the Raptors for just the third time in franchise history (2005-06 and 2008-09, both 3-0 sweeps). A win on Wednesday would be the Cavs’ first ever 4-0 season sweep over Toronto.

In their three wins over the Raptors this season, Cleveland has held Toronto to a combined .434 shooting from the field. Offensively, they Cavs have shot a .476 mark (.402 3FG%), while averaging 110.3 points and 13.0 three-point field goals per game.
