Ruthie Bolton’s “Mighty Ruthie” to Premiere at Golden 1 Center

On June 6, the Kings will host a special screening of “Mighty Ruthie,” the most recent installment of the SEC Storied series of ESPN Films, profiling Monarchs Legend Ruthie Bolton.

“Mighty Ruthie” journeys through the highs and lows of Ruthie’s life and early career from her time playing and being inducted in to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame at Auburn University, participating in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, bringing the Sacramento Monarchs its third championship title in 2005 to opening up about surviving years of domestic violence in her first marriage.

The film also features interviews with friends, family, and Ruthie herself highlighting her life and accomplishments and as well as sharing how she was able to overcome the many challenges and hardships she was faced with to become the powerful advocate she is today for women facing domestic violence.

The “Mighty Ruthie” screening is open to the public. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the film beginning at 6:15 p.m. and will be shown on the NBA’s largest and only 4K video screen.

Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear from Ruthie, Director & Producer Lisa Lax, Lookalike Productions’ Jenny Davidson, CEO & Executive Director of Stand Up Placer Beth Hassett, CEO and Executive Director of WEAVE Chivas Mays following the film’s debut for a panel discussion to encourage a dialogue in the community. To close the evening, attendees will have a chance to connect with Ruthie one-on-one during a signing of her new book, “From Pain to Power”.

In addition to the screening, the Kings will host a special auction featuring unique Kings and Monarch memorabilia to support regional women’s non-profits.

Tickets are $5 and available for purchase at Kings.com/MightyRuthie. All proceeds from the event will benefit organizations dedicated to breaking the cycle of violence by educating the community to better understand the issues of domestic violence and assault.
