Five takeaways from Jrue Holiday's press conference

Guard Jrue Holiday officially re-signed with the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday, July 6 and held a joint press conference with Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps. Here are five quick takeways from the press conference:

1. Demps said the team’s No. 1 priority this offseason was to re-sign Holiday, whose “best years are ahead of him.”

2. Holiday said the way the organization and city treated his family during his wife’s medical situation last year played a part in his decision to sign with the team. “The organization helped take care of us,” he said. “Glad we can spend the next five years here.” Lauren and their daughter JT attended the signing and the press conference. “The city of New Orleans has embraced us ever since we have been here, coming back here was an easy choice.”

3. Holiday and Demps both said they like the talent on the Pelicans. “The talent we have on our team I really excited about,” Holiday said. Said Demps: “We feel like we have the core (Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins and Holiday) and we want to put the right guys around them.”

4. Holiday said he is completely healthy and this summer has been one of the first when he has been able to train “really, really hard. … I feel really healthy, I feel really good.”

5. Holiday said his teammates were “hounding him” – in a good way – to re-sign and told him they “couldn’t do this without you.”
